Grills and fire pits should be 10 feet away from structures or flammable material. For more information, download the Backyard Fire Safety PDF.
Fire Pit Pitfalls
Don't let kids play near fire pits, even if you think they've cooled down. Ash that isn't glowing could still be very hot and cause burns.
Beat the Heat
Be sure you and your kids drink lots of water and try to stay indoors on very hot days. Never leave infants, children or pets in a parked car, even if the windows are cracked open.
It's great when your kids want to help with the chores, but make sure they know that mowers are a no-no. Click to access the "What to Know Before You Mow" PDF for more information.
Picky at Picnics
Never leave food out for more than an hour and make sure to store it in a well-insulated cooler packed with lots of ice.
Paint the Picture with Garage Poisons
Many things in the garage contain harmful contaminates. Keep all chemicals that can be poisonous locked up and out of reach in the garage. Check out the garage safety fact sheet to find out if your garage is kid-friendly.
